This windmill is one of many in my Villege. Is my favorite since I always was able to see it from my window when I was child...

Traditional house in Vourliotes Vilage

Vourliotes is an inland village, situated at an altitude of 300 meters, some 5 kilometers far from the main public road, leading from Samos to Karlovasi. The village is found at a distance of some 20 kilometers far from the capital town of Samos, at the Northwest. It is one of the older villages of the island and was established in late 16th or early 17th century. It owes its name to the origin of the first settlers who came from the village of Vourla (the ancient city of Klazomenes), in Asia Minor. The village is situated within an area of luxuriant green with a thick wood of pines, numerous vineyards and abundant current water. The village, one of the most beautiful and scenic settlements of the island, has narrow streets and very nice old traditional houses, many of which have been recently restored. One kilometer before the deviation, at the coast, it is situated the settlement of Avlakia, the old port of Vourliotes, which now has become a modern tourist resort. Today, Vourliotes count some 500 permanent residents living on agriculture, mainly the viniculture, and on tourism.

"Megali Panagia" Monastery - Scenic Sunday

MEGALI PANAGIA
The Monastery of Megali Panagia, located 2 kilometers outside the village Koumaradaioi, was built in 1586. It is one of the wealthiest and most beautiful monasteries in Samos. It was founded by the monks Dionysos and Neilos and it is devoted to the apostles Peter and Paul. It is built in line with the Byzantine patterns (it is cross-shaped and has a dome) and it is famed for its wall-paintings and its woodcut icon-screen. From 1821 to 1834 the monastery provided shelter to Lykourgos Logothetis, the archbishop Cyrillos and many others.

Samos Town Hall

The Town Hall where it had once been housed the Parliament of Samos and now, apart of the Town Hall, it is also housed the Municipal Gallery with several historic souvenirs of the recent history of the island. Among those we should mention the Constitution of the State of Samos, several portraits of governors and other important persons of the political, economic and social life of the island and several documents of the local history.

The Church of the Transfiguration, ( Metamorphosis) whose annual festival is observed each year on 6 August, the date on which in 1824 Samos was saved from the onset of the Turks.

The Castle of Lykourgos Logothetis, leader of the Samiots against the Turks in the uprising of 1821, was built on the remains of ancient buildings to meet the needs of the revolution and housed the Samiots' headquarters during their endeavours to throw off the Turkish yoke. It has a length of 400 metres and was built in 1824 with the help of all the islanders as a defence against the Ottoman fleet. Near the castle stands the imposing Church of the Transfiguration, whose annual festival is observed each year on 6 August, the date on which in 1824 Samos was saved from the onset of the Turks.

Traditional remake

This is not an old traditional building, it is a part of a modern Hotel village near to Pythagorion. The owners builded a real traditional Village using the traditional houses still of many Greek areas. The results of this remake is realy fantastic and worthy to see it.

The public Library - Scenic Sunday 76

This wonderfull house is builded 1893-1895 by the rich merchant Miltiades Georgiou.

The library was based first to suport the neds of the famus Pythagorion Gymnasium.

At 1859 the Samian Patriarch of Jerusalem Kyrilos the B´ send some 158 books from his privat collection. Many other donations where follow from privat collections in money or books form.

The library where officialy founted at 1881 and the first Director was Mr Epaminondas Stamatiades.

It is a very rich library with many historical books and documents about Samos.

National Bank of Greece

Well, about the financial figures of this bank I cant say anything...
But I like so much this building, its realy a wonderfull house on the port of Samos town represents the architectural tradition of the Island.
