"March" in my World

The "March" is a very old custom in the Balkan diaspora. Believed to have originated in ancient Greece, notably the Eleusinian Mysteries. The initiates of the Eleusinian Mysteries tie a thread, the "woof" in their right hand and their left leg. From 1 until March 31, kids wear on the wrist of a bracelet made of twisted white and red thread, the 'March' . According to popular tradition, "March" protect children's faces from the first sun of spring, not to burn. To make the last day of February and wear the first day of March, before leaving home. In some areas the March worn big toe like the ring to avoid trips to the holder. The wristband that earn at the end of the month, or leave it on the roses when you see the first swallow to get the birds to build their nest.

  4. What an intriguing custom. I like it! :D

    Your header photo is gorgeous!

  5. So nice to see these traditions still upheld. In modern society too little attention is paid to old customs. Even though the bands are no protection against the increasing strength of the sun, wearing them makes one more aware of the danger.

Thank you for sharing this interesting tradition with us.
