Oh no! We had a bad forest fire right next to our village in the hills on Sunday, so I can certainly sympathize with you. But your fire looks much worse. I pray that they will get it under control soon. Take care!

Don't panic and please don't compare this fire with the one of the year 2000! Every year there are fires on Samos and in July 2010 there have been two large fires within a week. But was has changed dramatically since the devastating fire of the year 2000 is the strenght of the firefighting powers on Samos. Much better trained, coordinated and equipped nowadays!!
Samos (Greek: Σάμος) is a Greek island in the North Aegeansea A great portion of the island is covered with vineyards, from which the famus Samos wine is made. The capital city is Vathy. The most important plains are that of Pythagorio, in the southeast, Karlovasi in the northwest, and Marathokampos in the southwest. The Samian climate is typically Mediterranean, with mild rainy winters, and warm rainless summers. The largest mountain is the Ampelos massif, which occupies the center of the island and rises to 1,095 metres (3,590 ft). The island's highest point is the summit of the Kerkis range, at 1,434 metres (4,700 ft). Famous Samians : Pythagoras ,Aristarchus of Samos,Polycrates see also this link : http://www.samos.gr/

No, I am so sorry. Hopefully everything goes ok. Greetings.
ReplyDeleteThat's scary!
ReplyDeleteDésolé, tellement désolé !
ReplyDeleteOh no, what a tragedy! Are the firefighters making any progress?
ReplyDeleteI remember the horror stories my friends in Thassos would tell me, they lost their house in a massive wildfire 20-odd years ago.
Why does this always happen during tourist season, is it arson?
Wishing you safe.
Oh, that looks nasty. I hope the firefighters make progress soon.
ReplyDeleteThis looks very bad. Please be safe. And may the firefighters also be safe as they fight this terrible blaze.
ReplyDeleteIt is a pity. It happens around Sydney almost every summer too, so I know how destructive bushfires are.
